Hagil Tan · UI/UX Designer & Design Engineer

I design websites and apps, then build them myself.

I’m Hagil, a UI/UX designer with 4 years of in-house product work. I take projects from user research to shipped interfaces, designing in Figma and building in React and Astro. What the client approves is what goes live.

Work

Client projects,
researched and built.

A café till, a multi-service café website and a donation platform for a mountaineering club. Each case study walks through the research, the key decisions and what I would change next.

“What I appreciated most was his willingness to listen to our ideas, communicate throughout the process, and translate our vision into a website that represents Cafe Mystika’s identity.”

1 website for 8 businesses, with a clear path for every visitor.

A website for a café that runs 8 businesses under one roof. The redesign gives each kind of visitor a clear path to the menu, a booking or a class.

Human + machine

AI generates options.
Designers define the vision.

AI can output 100 layouts in seconds. It can’t feel empathy, understand human context, or know why a design choice truly resonates with your audience.

I use Claude and Claude Code to explore layouts and prototype faster. That frees up time for the parts AI can’t do: talking to the owners, watching staff use the product, and deciding what to build.

Process

How a project
runs.

Every project goes through the same 4 steps. The client reviews the work at each one, so nothing reaches launch as a surprise.

  1. Step 01

    Research

I talk to the owner and the people who will use the product. I also audit what exists today, so the design starts from real problems.

  2. Step 02

    Design

Flows and wireframes come first, then high-fidelity Figma prototypes. The client reviews each round until we agree on the details.

  3. Step 03

    Build

I build it myself in React, Next.js or Astro. The CMS uses the client’s own words, so they can update it without me.

  4. Step 04

    Launch and refine

I watch the product in real use and collect feedback from staff and customers. Then I ship the fixes that matter most.

Steps 02 to 04 repeat as the client reviews the work and real users try it.

About

4 years in-house,
now freelance.

I’m Hagil Tan, a UI/UX designer and design engineer in the Philippines, with 4 years of in-house product work behind me. There I designed a promotions experience that lifted 30-day retention by 23% and built the company’s first design system. Now I work with small businesses, weigh every piece of client feedback against what users need, and build what I design.
